Description

Forest Therapy Walk
Bohemia Ecological Preserve
Sunday June 23rd, 10am to 1pm

Led by Bohemia Docents Emily, Deb, and Franny

Forest therapy is based on the Japanese practice, shinrin-yoku, which can be translated as "forest bathing” or “taking in the atmosphere of the forest.” A centering and calming restorative practice, it promotes balance and restored vitality through a quality of presence and heightened sensory awareness. It’s a time to slow down and become immersed in the natural environment, connecting with self, connecting with others, and connecting with the more-than-human world. These walks are appropriate for adults and older teens.

About the area:

The Bohemia Ecological Preserve is a 1,000-acre protected open space preserve with 554 acres of the preserve stewarded by LandPaths and the rest by a private landowner. This preserve is located in the western hills of Sonoma County. The preserve’s geographic location with both coastal and inland influences allows for a unique mixture of habitats including old-growth forests, oak woodlands, coastal meadows, and a treasured waterfall.  The land is home to several endangered and at-risk species of flora and fauna, including northern spotted owls, red tree voles, and Pennell’s bird’s beak. Stunning vistas, 25-foot waterfall, and delightfully wooded riparian corridors truly make this preserve a special place.
