Summer Saddle Sunset Hike & Picnic
 

August 20th, 6:30-8:30 PM

Join LandPaths for a beautiful hike over the verdant hills of the Saddle Mountain property, owned and protected by the Sonoma County Ag + Open Space.  We will time our hike to catch the sunset from the top of the mountain and enjoy the view.  Bring a picnic dinner and warm layers.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: We will be hiking approximately 3 miles over moderate to steep terrain on some small trails and ranch roads.

WHERE:  We’ll meet at Saddle Mountain Open Space Preserve on Cleland Rd in Santa Rosa.  From Hwy 12 turn north onto Calistoga Rd.  Take Calistoga for 2.9 miles.  Cleland Rd will be on your right at a sharp turn in Calistoga Rd. 


Carpool Option:  We encourage you to carpool if possible.  An UNSTAFFED carpool will be leaving The Open Space District Office - 747 Mendocino Avenue, 1 Block north of College Avenue in Santa Rosa.  The Open Space District Office is on the west side of Mendocino Avenue.  Please meet in the parking lot at the back of the building, off of Carrillo Street.  Carpoolers should meet by 6:10 PM and depart no later than 6:20 PM to make it to Saddle Mountain by 6:30 PM.  Please leave cars on the street outside the District parking lot.  Do not leave cars in the lot.

WHEN: We will meet at 6:30 PM on Monday August 20th.  Thank you for your promptness!  We will finish our hike by around 8:30 PM. 


WHAT TO BRING: water, picnic dinner, sturdy walking shoes, hiking poles or walking stick, binocs, camera, a headlamp or flashlight and a group spirit that will allow us to stay together and have fun!

  • There is no charge for this outing. It is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who funded the District’s work with a quarter-cent sales tax, in partnership with the District’s non-profit partner, LandPaths.
  • We will stay together in a group.
  • You will be asked to sign a liability waiver prior to the outing
  • No pets or smoking are permitted and absolutely no smoking pets! 
  • There are no restrooms on the property, however, ample topographic diversity exists.
