New Docent Training
Bohemia Ecological Preserve
March 2nd & March 9th *
This training takes place on two consecutive Saturdays: March 2, March 9.
*To complete the training, you must participate in both days.

Join our two-weekend training to become a docent at the spectacular Bohemia Ecological Preserve, located near the town of Occidental. This 1,000 acre preserve is currently only open through guided outings and stewardship volunteer work days. As a docent, you can help to share the experience with others (and you also get to explore the preserve on your own!)
By participating in this training, you will:
- Learn tips and tricks for leading a succesful hike
- Become intimately familiar with this amazing land
- Have the opportunitiy to design your own outings throughout the year

- Earn extra access to this preserve that is currently open only through guided outings.

How to become a Hike Docent Volunteer
Following are the steps that must be followed in order to become a volunteer Hike Docent.
- Sign up for the training by registering below on the LandPaths website.
- Fill out an application form (to be sent to you after you register)
- Attend two onsite training sessions (March 2, March 9)
- Complete the Agreement Form / Liability Waiver (to be sent to you after you register or at training)
- Apprentice on at least one (1) staff led hikes at the preserve
- Over the course of the year, attend 4 enrichment workshops
Volunteer Ability
- Docents should be able to walk or hike at least 5 miles on moderately hilly terrain.
- Docents should be comfortable presenting to small groups.
Requirements of Volunteers
- Docents must be 18 years or older.
- Docents must be 1st aid/CPR certified.
Commitment
- Hike Docents must commit to the Hike Docent Program for at least one year.
- Hike Docents must commit to leading a minimum of 6 guided hikes at the Bohemia Ecological Preserve each year.
- Hike Docents will submit a Field Report following each guided hike within 24 hours.
- Leading a Bohemia Ecological Preserve hike takes approximately 4 hours.
Cost
- Participation in the first two orientation trainings is free of charge.
- Participation in subsequent enrichment courses will cost approximately $25 for each course. Scholarships are available for the enrichment courses.
- 1st Aid / CPR training will be paid for by the volunteer.
