Description

Yellow Star Thistle Week at Bohemia Ecological Preserve

July 30th-August 2nd, 2019; Come when you can!

Leaders:  Nicolas Whitaker, Erin Mulligan, or Kyle Gift (LandPaths Staff)

No Registration Necessary, please come when you can!

Yellow Star Thistle (http://www.cal-ipc.org/ip/management/yst.php) is an invasive species that has the ability to severely outcompete native grassland species.  Each plant can disperse up to 35,000 seeds per year.  That's why it is really important to remove yellow star thistle before it spreads its seed. We removed all known plants last year for the first time ever which means that we are getting close to complete eradication from the preserve. We could really use your help to reach the goal of complete removal for a 2nd year!

For four days in one week, LandPaths will be removing flowering Yellow Star Thistle by hand.  LandPaths stewardship staff will be there for the whole time each day but volunteers can feel free to come and go as they please.  Some smaller patches require a short but steep hike to get to.

Contact Erin at erin@landpaths.org with any questions!
