Calling all who love local food and nature’s bounty!

Join us in giving thanks for all that nature gives us.

Experience Sonoma County through the eyes of Summer bounty!

Join us on a three-day wild-foraging and land stewardship program.  Witness the bounty that nature offers in our Summer Season—wild greens, elderberries, rosehips, huckleberries, wild roots and many other tasty ingredients! And while we forage we will learn how to tend these amazing plants and landscapes so that they flourish and become more resilient.

We will forage wild ingredients to take home and prepare in your own kitchen. Chef Coby Liebman, who has lived and cooked around the world and specializes in wild ingredients from right here in Sonoma County, will share his favorite wild foraged recipes.

As we wander the landscape searching for ingredients, wildlife ecologist and tracker, Meghan Walla-Murphy will share her tracking and medicinal plant  knowledge as we look through the lens of wildlife and plants. How do we as humans remember our role as stewards and gardeners of our forests, grasslands and waters? With hands on experience we will help regenerate the landscapes that provide us such bounty.

·A seasonal Lunch will be provided from Holly and Tali's pop-up cafe located in the town of Bodega.

TrekSonoma welcomes Sonoma County locals and friends to come trek with us through native prairie grasslands,  lush riparian forests, and oak woodlands. Over 3 days you will walk through diverse coastal and forested landscapes and explore the bounty the land has to offer. These are day-long classes, but you are welcome to camp separately on the property to avoid driving at night. If you chose to stay overnight you are responsible for all camping gear as well as all food with the exception of lunch.

We will be teaching sustainable wild foraging practices as well as wild tending practices to keep foraging areas abundant and well cared for.Now more than ever we need folks who are willing to build local relationships with our neighbors and the land we call home. Come join us and play in our own backyard!

A packing list and precise meeting location will be sent to participants at a later date.

For Who: This Trek is geared towards people who love to walk beneath the open skies for the better part of the day and – over the course of several days – feel that they are actually traveling across a landscape. This trek may also appeal to local food lovers, people who enjoy cooking with friends, people who want to learn wild tending techniques, and those who want to give thanks to the local ecosystems. One need not be an Olympian to make the hike, but be in shape for several days of walking; the pace is completely doable for anyone who is in shape to walk. We carry only a knapsack with layer, water, optional camera and a portion of the ‘trail lunch.’ Children 11 and up that are hearty walkers are certainly encouraged to join their adult parent or caregiver.

What to Bring:

  • Daypack, water bottle, pruning sheers, 3-4 reusable or plastic bags for storing foraged ingredients or a basket of some type, and a small shovel for digging.

Sliding scale payment in exchange for volunteer time may be available. Email outings@landpaths or call (707) 544-7284 with questions!
