We are thinning young Douglas Fir trees to improve the forest health in this beautiful preserve-- and you can help us by cutting down your very own Christmas tree. (Warning: while these are NOT manicured trees like you may purchase at a Christmas Tree Farm, they are filled with meaning and love. In harvesting this tree, you will have helped fire reduction work for this land at the same time! )

Enjoy a walk and tour along beautiful, flowing Mark West Creek followed by music, hot cider, and wreath-making & other holiday crafts. All are invited to join in on the seasonal fun along the Mountain.

Exploring the Trees of Bohemia Ecological Preserve: An Outdoor Workshop for the Homeschool Community

Join us as we hike through the beautiful Bohemia Ecological Preserve to interact with a handful of different tree species. We'll explore the forests, full of trees such as Douglas firs,California Buckeye, Native willows, and Oaks. This outing will be geared for home-school children and parents and will include a time of drawing in our nature journals. Our route will be a little over 3 miles.

Join us for a morning of beginner’s birding at Bohemia Ecological Preserve. Please note: This is not a hike, but a slow walk (includes considerable incline). We will meander through the property slowly, looking for and observing all the birds we encounter. However, for those with mobility issues, please be aware that we will be walking up a steep gravel road and around uneven terrain. This is a birding walk geared toward beginners and the bird-curious, but all skill levels are welcome. We will share tips on using binoculars and field guides, teach techniques for locating birds, point out bird vocalizations, and share bird ID field marks for some of the common summer and year-round species. We want to inspire participants to get out and appreciate the bird world!

¡Venga y acompáñenos a la posada de Bayer  Farm! Habrá comida, bebidas calientes tradicionales, actividades para niños como piñatas, aguinaldos y mucha diversión! Traiga un platillo o postre para compartir si lo desea y no se les olvide traer sus propios platos, vasos y utensilios para reducir la cantidad de basura. Vengamos juntos/as a compartir y celebrar de estos días festivos y fortalecer nuestras alianzas comunitarias.

In a nutshell, a Posada is a series of 9 traditional fiestas (celebration) that lead up to the Noche Buena (Holy Night), rooted in strong Catholic influences inherited from Spain; slightly similar to the 12 days of Christmas celebrated in some homes throughout the states. So, as part of the end of the year celebrations we will be hosting a community Posada for our families, friends and neighbors to come together and build stronger community ties through this beautiful Mexican cultural event. We will have Pozole, a traditional hominy soup, warm beverages served during this time of year and piñatas and goody bags for the children!

By helping build these trails, you will be a part of the Riddell Preserve forever! Trail work includes brushing vegetation, bench cutting, building structures, and clearing dirt off the trail. There are tasks for everyone!
