Autumn Birding by the Coast

Get your binoculars ready and join us as we explore the 330 beautiful acres of Carrington Coast Ranch, which has been owned by Ag + Open Space since 2003. On this hike we'll explore the coastal grasslands while learning some of the basics of birding with experienced birder, Dave Barry. This amazing property, just north of Bodega Bay, boasts views of the ocean & Salmon Creek while protecting habitat for threatened species such as the American badger, California red-legged frog, and Townsend's big-eared bat.

Join Bohemia Preserve Docent and trained yoga teacher Michele Larkin for a yoga hike at the Bohemia Ecological Preserve. We will start by sharing a 1 hour yoga practice while taking in the amazing views and beauty of our surroundings. All levels, including beginners, are welcome. Afterwards, we will enjoy a meditative hike and picnic.

We will meet at the Bohemia Ecological Preserve at 9:30 AM and carpool from the gate up to Hut Hill where we will hold our yoga practice. From there we will begin a meditative hike, stopping periodically to take in all of the sensory delights of our beautiful setting. Please be aware that some of the terrain is steep.

Join us for a hike to and through several different forested areas on the Bohemia Ecological Preserve in which we will observe, wonder about and discuss the life, death and transformation of the trees and under story in these woodlands. Our aim during this time will be to take a closer look at the slow tempo dramas unfolding in the lives of trees in a forest, to recognize some of the threats they face and how they respond to these challenges. Please bring questions, answers, ponderings, and your unique perspective about forests.

Attuning your sense to Nature at Bohemia Ecological Preserve

This outing is a chance to slow down, to open your senses deeply, to be receptive to what lies all around you and learn to hear, see, smell, touch, and (yes!) taste in a new way. We will visit different habitats of the preserve (the Margaret Creek woodland, the Duvoul Creek and nearby meadow) and use a variety of activities to open to new sensory impressions. We will spend time recording our experiences through writing and drawing and will share our findings with others in small groups as well as with the whole group.

Come and visit the crepuscular critters of Bohemia Ecological preserve for a trip into the world of Bats and other night-time creatures, with a potluck dinner and optional overnight. Join Joani, experienced Bohemia docent and crew for a late afternoon/twilight introduction to the Bohemia Ecological Preserve in the hills of Occidental. After a brief introduction to the wonders of the Preserve, we will be delving into the world of nature’s magic. We will enjoy a wonderful potluck dinner, (including your favorite beverage) talk about crepuscular critters, and watch the bats and stars arise! We might expect to see moths and mosquitoes, some insectivorous bats, foxes, raccoons, skunks, and possibly owls. This hike is geared towards adults. Overnight camping is optional.

Despite what Hollywood would have you believe, the witches of yore weren’t brewing potions with eyes of newt or tongues of dog.These names actually reference real plants that are still used today for their medicinal value, and the so called witches were in fact known as healers of their time.Get into the Halloween spirit with us on a hike through the Bohemia Ecological Preserve, where we will learn about these magical plants and their healing properties.We’ll hike through hardwood forest, riparian woodlands, and serpentine chaparral in search of species that have defined the witch mythology we know today.

Join herbalist Allie Cuozzo and yoga instructor Natalie Waters for an afternoon of yoga and nourishing autumnal broths. In this session, we will focus on movement, breathing practice, and herbs that nourish the respiratory and immune systems.

Natalie will guide us through a yoga session centered on gentle Vinyasa-style movement, awareness of breath, and restorative, restful poses. Bring a yoga mat, a friend, and your favorite cup for a day of nourishment at Riddell Preserve.

Join LandPaths for a day of exploring the relationship between fires and forests. Participants will learn about fire ecology and the different ways that LandPaths manages its forests at the Riddell Preserve for biodiversity while minimizing fire risk and creating resilient forests.

We do not want cost to be an issue for anyone and have a number of scholarships available to attend. If you cannot pay the registration fee, please contact Erin Mulligan at erin@landpaths.org.
